  1. December 2020 Diversions

    DIVERSIONS

It’s a strange time right now, one filled with uneasiness and for many, unbridled anxiety. I’ve tried to consciously acknowledge and address it although it still seems to seep into my dreams. Here’s to the vaccine hopefully rescuing all of us; it cannot come soon enough.

The silver lining has been the attention to detail everyone is placing on their home environments. It’s as if the moment arrived (all at the same time!) where people had to face their long-neglected décor and make swift decisions to turn their rooms into sanctuaries. I won’t even mention workspaces, that’s a given.

We've gotten to know so many of you, even more intimately than we already had. Hearing your stories and your client’s needs (and worries) has helped us become even more attuned to what’s essential. So, with over 90% of our designs in-stock, we’re ready to safely ship while taking care of our co-workers and in-turn, you. Happy shopping and please stay safe.

  2. A DIFFERENT KIND OF HOLIDAY

I’ve been struggling with what to write about as it’s such a weighty time in our lives. The pandemic has thrown curveballs at us at a rapid pace affecting everyone in such different ways. For those of us with kids, at any age, their lives are upside down, our parents or elderly family members stifled and scared, and we are just trying to keep on keepin on, safely.

It does seem however, that our homes have taken on the utmost importance, and upgrading, changing and editing our décor is making a lot of people happy and comfy. As we enter into the cold season, it’s time to snuggle up and see the positive, as we now know the end is in sight. Kudos to all the scientists who have been working at a breakneck pace, with dedication, perseverance and love to bring the world a cure for this dangerous disease. Here are a few chic, comfy designs sure to bring you a little luxe, after all, we deserve it.

  3. August 2020 A fresh refresh

    A FRESH REFRESH

Ok, so August is upon us which means gorgeous tomatoes (there’s nothing like a late summer tomato sandwich), fresh corn, billowing veggies and juicy, sun-kissed fruit. All the while, we can enjoy the outdoors and sit socially distanced from our loved ones. I implore everyone to recognize this gift, which we never, ever thought about before – just the chance to sit with our most favorite people.

Which brings me to the next season, and the looong one after that for those of us that reside in seasonal climates. We’re going to be moving back indoors people! And yes, that means the same four walls we have resided in for much of the year. If that sounds somewhat daunting, as it does to most, let’s change things up so it’s not Groundhog Day, AGAIN. Personally, I want to swap out two things; the public rooms where we tend to gather and the bedside chests in our bedroom. I’m thinking about curved sofas and chests with a little storage since I seem to be accumulating numerous books and Covid related paraphernalia; like lip balms, scented candles and a myriad of lotions to calm my dry, overly washed, severely dehydrated skin.

Here are a few pieces I’m considering, as well as some of my recent favorite discoveries.

  4. SUMMER SHAKE-UP

Ok, so it’s almost summer. It’s not the summer we dreamt about and pined for all year long, but it’s summer none the less.

But, before all of that I want to speak to those of you that have been personally impacted by Covid-19. Many of you lost people you love, people you knew or have been sick yourself. I know Carl and I have witnessed it all, and it’s profoundly tragic. Please know we think of you every day. Truly.

So, back to summer. Since we’ve all been cooped up for what seems like an eternity, everyone is commenting that they need a home décor refresh. Whether it’s a complete makeover (have you ever spent more time on your sofa?) or a few pieces to change the look of your room (new bedside chests anyone?), or new dining or counter chairs (that’s a shake-up), we have you covered. And, we are shipping safely following all guidelines to ensure your health and the health of our employees. So, go ahead and change things up, right now your home is your sanctuary, today more than ever.

    Wishing you continued health.

  5. A PLAYLIST FOR NOW

    Dear friends,

As we desperately try to adapt to the new normal, we believe music is exactly what we need right now. It has the power to heal, to lift and transport us to another place… maybe even another time. So, I put together a playlist, Interlude@Home, a mix that's both calming yet spirited.

We all share a devout passion for Interior Design, which our home environments reflect, so hopefully you're enveloped in beauty, whatever that means to each of us. We hope that these beats, both old and new, elevate your mood and give you a lift. Our wish is that even for a brief Interlude, during your daily walk, run, while cooking or finally taking that long bath you’ve been promising yourself, the music transports you to a place of healing and optimism.

While there is much we cannot control right now, we can take the time to turn on the music, smile, breathe and hopefully, laugh.

Wishing you all sustained health, and remember spring is just a moment away; may it bring us all a sense of hope and renewal.

  6. December 2019 Mixed metals

    MIXED METALS

I seem to keep having the same conversation repeatedly, you know, the one about mixing metals. It’s as if everyone feels like there’s a steadfast rule they’re about to break. It reminds me of the, “Can you wear white after Labor Day?” conundrum. The answer to that by the way, is a resounding yes. And, I do often.

So, to answer the frequent question once and for all (probably not but…), YES, please mix metals with confidence and conviction. It’s much easier to “match”, but not nearly as interesting or unique. Antique brass, polished brass, nickels and gunmetals play so well together, just choose what you love and the result will be stunning.

Here are a few pieces that are prime examples.
