  1. A PLAYLIST FOR NOW

    Dear friends,

As we desperately try to adapt to the new normal, we believe music is exactly what we need right now. It has the power to heal, to lift and transport us to another place… maybe even another time. So, I put together a playlist, Interlude@Home, a mix that's both calming yet spirited.

We all share a devout passion for Interior Design, which our home environments reflect, so hopefully you're enveloped in beauty, whatever that means to each of us. We hope that these beats, both old and new, elevate your mood and give you a lift. Our wish is that even for a brief Interlude, during your daily walk, run, while cooking or finally taking that long bath you’ve been promising yourself, the music transports you to a place of healing and optimism.

While there is much we cannot control right now, we can take the time to turn on the music, smile, breathe and hopefully, laugh.

Wishing you all sustained health, and remember spring is just a moment away; may it bring us all a sense of hope and renewal.

  2. December 2019 Mixed metals

    MIXED METALS

I seem to keep having the same conversation repeatedly, you know, the one about mixing metals. It’s as if everyone feels like there’s a steadfast rule they’re about to break. It reminds me of the, “Can you wear white after Labor Day?” conundrum. The answer to that by the way, is a resounding yes. And, I do often.

So, to answer the frequent question once and for all (probably not but…), YES, please mix metals with confidence and conviction. It’s much easier to “match”, but not nearly as interesting or unique. Antique brass, polished brass, nickels and gunmetals play so well together, just choose what you love and the result will be stunning.

Here are a few pieces that are prime examples.

  3. LITTLES AND BIGS

I've been thinking a lot about scale lately. Often, the usual standard sizes just don’t cut it and you need something smaller or larger. The hunt is fun for a while, until you come up with ZERO. When Carl and I were designing our apartment, among many challenges was a desk for my own teeny, tiny NYC room that was to become a comfy office, aka my hiding place. I was completely shocked but nothing in our line worked, so I asked Jessica, our Head of Product Design to scale a mini Ava Desk. Voila, perfection... a little acrylic showstopper. We introduced it on our website and apparently, I wasn’t the only one who needed it.

The opposite happened when a very high-end client kept repeatedly ordering two Surrey Acrylic Cocktail Tables. We inquired as to why and he let us know he was nesting them together. One aha moment later and a star was born. The large scale Surrey Square Cocktail Table.

All of this has piqued my inquisitiveness. What do you need? Chances are, if you need it someone else does too.

  4. December 2017 One of a kind

    ONE OF A KIND

Jennifer Aniston in Vintage Valentino Vintage fashion is amazing. Aside from the thrill of the hunt, the prize is not looking like anyone else at the party. For a true fashionista, there's nothing like the opportunity to express your stylish individuality in a room full of rather meek risk takers. It takes (along with a great deal of confidence) an innate eye to locate and tailor a piece from a long gone era into a modern, fresh silhouette.

That got me thinking....What can we do that draws upon the past in a respectful and fashion-inspired way? How can we translate let's say gold boucle into a metal detail or develop a process for a material that looks appropriately aged, yet crisp and contemporary? It's been so much fun thinking this way, and we've only just begun. Here's to fashion and furniture!

    Enjoy!

  5. August 2017 Ice, ice baby

    ICE, ICE BABY

I don't normally toast the end of summer, as it's my most favorite season. Everyone has a smile on his or her face, layers aren't needed and the rosé is flowing....all day (I couldn't resist). There's just something about the warm weather, languorous days and constant gatherings.

However, this year we have the chicest ice buckets you've ever seen. Inspired by a mid-century, top swinging acrylic design I picked up decades ago, we've updated it to accommodate the fashions of today. Of course, we're doing it in crystal clear acrylic but we've also added polished marble bases with clear acrylic tops. So, it's also the perfect vessel for blush colored M & M's or whatever your guilty pleasure. Knowing I can still keep toasting in style is making the transition to fall just the tiniest bit easier.

    Cheers!

  6. OBJET EXPRESSIONISM

Bottom line... it's all about the details. Your outfit is not complete without that final touch, be it a piece of jewelry, a distinct belt, a purposefully messy updo or a glossed lip. Fashion stylists have their tricks, as do Interior Designers; I never tire of hearing them.

I know I've told you Carl and I recently moved and I've been working on that top layer. The jewelry for the home. Whether it's a perfectly placed knot on top of stacked coffee table books, a brass tray on the bar or a multi-textured sculpture, it's the objéts that attract the eye. It's not easy, and I'm super meticulous (or crazy, as Carl would say), but I'm just obsessed with curating that perfect trifecta of adornments.

Here are some of my favorites, and I live for my Gucci Belt too.
